Dr. Kalaitzandonakes Represents EMAC at IAAE Meetings
Several EMAC research papers were highlighted at the 26th Conference of the International Association of Agricultural Economists in Queensland, Australia August 12-18, 2006. This year's conference theme was "Contribution of Agricultural Economics to Critical Policy Issues."
Two papers were presented in the organized symposium "Media and Consumer Response to New Technology." Dr. Jill McCluskey, an associate professor at Washington State University, presented the paper "Public Perception of Nanoscale Science and Technology," which was co-authored by EMAC researchers Marks and Kalaitzandonakes. In addition, Dr. Kalaitzandonakes presented the paper "Media Coverage of GM Foods and Influence on Consumer Choice," co-authored by Dr. Marks and Dr. Steve Vickner, an associate professor at Utah State University.
At a separate session, Dr. Kalaitzandonakes presented his research titled "Implications of Commercializing Genetically Modified Soybeans in China for the Supply Chain." Finally, Dr. Kalaitzandonakes discussed his research on regulatory approval and compliance costs for biotechnology crops during the Biotechnology Pre-conference workshop, titled "Biotechnology Approval and Compliance Costs."
